Introduction to User Interface Modeling

#Learn | #Practice | #Do

Using CATIA Magic Products

Course Overview

Learn how to construct intuitive, simulation-ready user interfaces directly within your SysML models using CATIA Magic's UI modeling elements. This hands on course covers essential UI elements like Frames, Panels, Group Boxes, Buttons, Image Switchers, Check Boxes, Combo Boxes and more - teaching you not just what they are, but how and when to use them to control simulations, organize interfaces, and visualize system behavior. Perfect for professionals looking to bring interactivity and clarity to their executable models!

Course Format & Delivery

This is a self-paced, on-demand course designed to fit into your schedule.

Your Learning Experience

By the end of the course, you will walk away with:

  • A strong understanding of the purpose and boundaries of user interface modeling in SysML - what is it, what it's not, and how it fits into simulation driven design.

  • Detailed walk-throughs of every major UI modeling element: frames, group boxes, labels, text fields, checkboxes, combo boxes, image switchers, and more.

  • Step-by-step demonstrations showing how to configure each element and bind it to your model elements.

  • A complete tutorial project: you'll start with a prebuilt base model and follow along with the instructor to build out a simulation-ready UI step-by-step.

  • A guided capstone project, where you'll apply what you've learned to build a user interface of your own - using a provided base model and final files to compare and test your work.

  • Downloadable note pages and self-assessment quizzes throughout the course to help you retain core concepts.

  • Support for both CATIA Magic v2024 and v2021, with base and final model files provided for each version.

Technology Requirements

To complete this course and run simulations successfully, you'll need access to the following:

  • CATIA Magic (formerly Cameo Systems Modeler or Magic  Draw)

This course is compatible with CATIA Magic v2021 and later.  You will be provided with base and final models in both v2021 and v2024 formats.  The v2024 files are forward compatible with v2022 and later releases.

  • Magic Model Analyst or Simulation Toolkit

The course uses simulation to demonstrate the dynamic behavior of user interface elements.  You will need access to either Magic Model Analyst (included in Architect-level tools), or Simulation Toolkit plugin to support executable models.

  • Recommended Display Set Up:

While not required, we recommend using a large screen or external monitor to follow along with tutorial videos and model walkthroughs more easily.

Note: Model files are provided in the course.  If you're unsure which version of CATIA Magic you have access to, help is available.

Included In Your Course

Engaging Lecture Video Series
Instructor-led videos with animated visuals and avatar narration introduce each UI element, its purpose, and how it fits into executable modeling.

Demonstrations
Step-by-step walkthroughs in CATIA Magic show you how to set up frames, panels, group boxes, buttons, checkboxes, labels, text fields, image switchers, and active images so you can see exactly how to apply the concepts.

Guided Build-Along Tutorial
Work through a complete UI interface build using provided base models (v2021 & v2024) as you follow the instructor's instructions in real time.

Capstone Project + Solution Models
Put your skills into practice by completing your own UI build.  You'll get both the starting files and the final working model to compare your work and refine your results.

Downloadable Note Sheets & Self-Assessment Quizzes
Structured note-taking pages and periodic knowledge-check quizzes reinforce the concepts and help you retain what you learn.

Version Flexibility & Practical Format
The course supports CATIA Magic v2021 and later.  A larger screen is recommended for clearer tutorial viewing-but it's optional.
